Costume Work

After a couple years of keeping my fashion and my theatre work apart, I started to wonder how I could marry two of my favourite things together. Having dabbled a tiny bit of costume work during my community local productions, I decided to work with The Costume for my student internship in 2023. I had the opportunity to learn technical skills like alterations and maintenance of costumes, but more important than that, I learnt how to be adaptable. Just as theatre is fluid and can change according to the actors and audience, I quickly learnt that things don't always go according to plan, and when there are mistakes, it is the dressers, crew and stage managers that have to be quick on their feet, to ensure that the show goes on smoothly. To me, that is the beauty of theatre and I am very in awe of it!
